Hardscape

Hardscape Design & Installation in New Braunfels, TX

Patios, walkways and retaining walls that hold a Hill Country slope and still look like they belong to the house.

Retaining walls are engineering, not decoration

A retaining wall is holding back tons of soil that gets dramatically heavier when it's saturated. Height, batter, base preparation and — above all — drainage behind the wall are what determine whether it's still standing in fifteen years. Walls fail because water builds up behind them with nowhere to go, not because the blocks were wrong.

Walkways and patios that connect things

Hardscape works when it moves people sensibly between the places they actually go — back door to patio, patio to gate, driveway to front door. Laid out around desire lines rather than around a drawing, it stops feeling like a decorative feature and starts feeling like part of the house.

Planned with the rest of the yard

Because we also build the fences, decks and pergolas, hardscape can be planned against them instead of around them — matching levels, coordinating materials, and sequencing the work so one trade isn't tearing up another's finished surface.

Common questions

Do I need drainage behind a retaining wall?

Yes, effectively always. Hydrostatic pressure from water trapped behind a wall is the most common reason retaining walls bulge, lean and fail. Drainage is not the place to save money.

Can you handle a steep Hill Country slope?

That's most of what we build on. Steep sites often need terracing across several walls rather than one tall one, which is both more stable and usually more attractive.

Let's talk about your fence

Tell us the property, the length and what you're trying to accomplish. We'll come out, measure it properly and give you an itemized number — and if restoring what you've got is the better call, we'll say so.
