Start with the use, not the shape
A deck built for a dining table and eight chairs is a different deck from one built for a hot tub, and both are different from one built to get you from a back door down to a sloped yard. Before we draw anything we want to know what's going to happen on it, because that determines size, height, traffic flow and where the steps want to be.
The framing is the deck
Joist spacing, beam sizing, footing depth and ledger attachment are what make a deck feel solid underfoot in year ten. It's all invisible once the boards go down, which is precisely why it's where corners get cut. We build the structure to take the load you'll actually put on it.
Finished before it's finished
We seal boards before installation wherever the build allows, so the undersides and cut ends are protected. On a deck this matters even more than on a fence, because the underside is permanently in shade and permanently damp after rain.
Common questions
Do you build decks on sloped or elevated lots?
Yes — a lot of Hill Country lots need it. Elevated and multi-level builds change the footing and bracing requirements considerably, which is worth knowing before you compare quotes.
Can you build a deck and stain it at the same time?
That's how we prefer to do it. We seal what we can before installation and finish the rest on completion, so the whole thing is protected from day one by the same crew.
